New and updated app information for the new App Store.

App Subtitle and App Name Updates

You can add an app subtitle of up to 30 characters to accompany your app name that briefly summarizes your app. This will be shown under your app name on the new App Store for customers with devices running iOS 11 or later. You can add a subtitle on your next version update, or immediately if your app has an editable app status. Similar to your app name, the app subtitle can be localized into the languages supported on the App Store.

With the launch of iOS 11, all new app names for iOS, tvOS, and macOS will need to be 30 characters or less.

Promotional Text and Description Updates

You can add promotional text to share information with potential users, such as announcements for new content, features, and limited-time promotions. This will be shown above the app description on your product page on the new App Store for for customers with devices running iOS 11 or later, and can be up to 170 characters. You don’t have to wait until your next version update to add promotional text, and you can update and localize this field at any time.

In the future, you will only be able to update your app’s description when submitting a new version of your app. The description character limit of 4000 will remain the same.

For marketing guidance on the promotional text field, read App Store Product Page.

Support for More App Previews

Now you can have up to three app previews for each language the App Store supports. If you have three app previews for a given language, customers with devices running iOS 11 or later will always see all of your app previews on your App Store product page before your screenshots. Apple unveils AppStore overhaul at WWDC

Apple has unveiled one of the biggest overhauls to the App Store since its launch in 2008, designed to make discovering apps and games “easier than ever before”. The design makeover was announced at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC)

Among the new features of the redesigned App Store is a new “Today” tab, billed as a daily destination all about games, apps and app culture. It will showcase original stories and in-depth features and interviews, as well as exclusive premiers, new releases and a fresh look at all-time favourites, and will be updated on a daily basis.

Apple has also created a dedicated tab for Games, which it says is the most popular category on the App Store. The new section will feature recommendations of new releases and updates, videos, top charts just for games and hand-picked collections, making it easier for users to navigate the 500,000 games available.

Apps will also have its own tab which, like the new Games section, will also feature recommendations, videos and hand-picked collections across 24 categories, as well as its own app charts.

Furthermore, the Updates tab will allow users to quickly see what has changed in their apps and games with the latest updates, while the Search function has been enhanced to include the editorial content found in the Today, Games and Apps tabs.

Apple has also redesigned the app product pages to allow developers to spotlight their apps with more engaging content and put the most important information front and centre. Developers can submit up to three video app previews and five screenshots, which can now be localised so a customer in any country can have a customised version of the video.

Finally, Apple is also making in-app purchases more discoverable on the App Store. In-app purchases will show up on an app product page and in search results, with users now being able to start their purchases on the App Store and be taken directly into a developer’s app or game to complete the transaction.

The new App Store will be included with iOS 11. The developer preview of the new operating system is already available to iOS Developer Program members, and a public beta programme will be available to iOS users later this month. The new software will be available this fall as a free update for iPhone 5s and later, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad 5th generation, iPad mini 2 and later and iPod touch 6th generation.

Apple developer community earnings exceed $70B

Apple said its developer community earned more than $70 billion since the App Store launched in 2008, and overall downloads grew more than 70 per cent in the last 12 months.

It also revealed the availability of a subscription business model across all 25 app categories helped drive a 58 per cent annual increase in active paid App Store subscribers over the past year.

Subscribers can use the subscription option for streaming apps including Netflix and Hulu, Tastemade – a mobile-first cooking network – and photo editing apps including Over and Enlight.

Not surprisingly, gaming and entertainment are the store’s top grossing categories, while lifestyle, health and fitness apps experienced over 70 per cent growth in the past year.

The photo and video category is one of the fastest growing categories, with nearly 90 per cent growth.

Apple singled out Pokemon Go and Super Mario Run as being “breakout hits” and said “other standout launches” included CancerAid, Exercise Intensity and Ace Tennis.

“People everywhere love apps and our customers are downloading them in record numbers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing, adding the amount earned by developers over the past nine years is “simply mind-blowing.”

The news comes ahead of the tech giant’s World Wide Developers’ Conference, which runs from 5 June to 9 June.

In May it was reported App Store revenue increased 40 per cent year-on-year to an all time quarterly high during Apple’s fiscal Q2 2017(calendar Q1) while the number of developers publishing on the platform increased 26 per cent year-on-year.

Big Data, Little Data, Any Data helps to market your Application

There are many sources and forms of data that are currently available for App Developers/Owners/Marketers to better understand their customers and their app usage patterns. Many sources (i.e. Apple AppStore Analytics, Google Analytics) are free and there are many benefits from reviewing and analyzing the data on a daily basis.

Often app owners spend time on the cost of acquisition of users but fail to look at who these new users are, where they came from and what actions they are performing within the application.

@Apppromo we make a practices of reviewing data and also encourage our customers to continue to review new and old data as long as their application is in market.
